A 2-time All-Star, Jaylen Brown contracted a five-year $304 million supermax deal with the Celtics. Jaylen Brown, a Celtics star, is sticking in Boston for the time being.
Brown and the Celtics are said to have agreed to a five-year, $304 million supermax deal extension, the highest in NBA history. On Wednesday, he formally signed the contract.
Brown stated his gratitude for the community’s and the Celtics’ investment. “You can expect a return on that investment from me in Boston, on and off the court, and around the world.”
With this extension, Brown remains with the franchise that selected him third overall in 2016.

Last year, he posted career highs in points (26.6 per game), rebounds (6.9), and assists (3.5 per game). However, the Celtics’ postseason attendance dropped significantly after their Eastern Conference finals loss to the Miami Heat. Brown scored 19 points on 8-of-23 shooting with one 3-pointer made in Game 7.
Nonetheless, after spending so much time in Boston, he is now an integral component of the team’s core that management isn’t ready to risk losing when his current four-year agreement ends at the end of the upcoming season.
Jaylen Brown Contract
Brown qualified for the supermax contract after being named to the All-NBA second team for the first time in his career.
Brad Stevens, president of basketball operations for the Celtics, has been adamant about getting Brown to commit to a long-term extension ever since the end of last season.

“He’s a significant part of what makes us who we are. We trust him, and I’m grateful to have him on our side,” Stevens remarked about him only last month. I’m grateful that those guys always come back to work once they’ve achieved success. And when they lose, they take responsibility for it and keep going. So that’s what they’re up to, and I’m aware of it. And that’s not easy to come by.
All-Star Jayson Tatum agreed, saying that he and Brown had been the Celtics’ decisive force in their runs to the NBA Finals in 2021-22 and the conference finals in the previous season.
When asked about the importance of keeping Brown on Boston’s roster after their East Finals loss in May, Tatum replied, “extremely important.”

“He’s one of the best players in this league,” Tatum remarked. He’s versatile on both sides of the field and quite youthful for his position. And he’s done a lot for his career already. That’s why I consider it crucial.
The new collective bargaining agreement placing greater restrictions on how teams may design their rosters and adding luxury tax penalties. Brown’s new contract is expected to lead to some financial maneuvering in the future.
Tatum is currently in the final year of his rookie agreement. This became effective at the beginning of the 2017–18 season. He will be eligible for a potential supermax extension next summer.
